На экраны выходит фильм 2012, в котором показывается гибель цивилизации. Там со вкусом расхерачиваются Белый Дом, Сикстинская капелла, собор св. Петра и т.п. А теперь угадайте, какое известное строение создатели фильма побоялись тронуть на экране?
Правильно - Каабу.

Интересная статья в Маариве (и по-английски) - Джо Сторк, замдиректора отделения Human Rights Watch по Ближнему Востоку и автор последнего отчета HRW про Израиль (разумеется, обвиняющего Израиль во всевозможных грехах) - не только марксист и сторонник уничтожения Израиля, но и прямо одобрил Мюнхексий теракт, утверджая, что он "заслуживает одобрения, так как оказал существенную моральную поддержку палестинцам".

Слово "Palestinian" на первой странице упоминается 12 раз, есть также упоминания арабов, "Западного Берега", Газы и т.п. А вот упоминания Израиля или евреев - нет вообще. Напомните мне, Иерусалим какой страны столица?

Иорданские власти отбирают у "палестинцев" гражданство, чтобы те не начали уклоняться от священного долга борьбы за независимость палестинского народа путем постоянного проживания в Иордании. Кого тут следует понимать под "палестинцами", учитывая иорданскую демографию, я не очень понимаю - как именно они отличают "палестинцев" от "непалестинцев" - по месту рождения? По месту жительства дедушки? Человека, живущего 20 лет в Иордании, автор называет "West Bank lawyer". Вряд-ли они лишат гражданства 80% населения. Так что кого именно - не очень ясно.
Но представьте, что Израиль решил бы лишить израильских арабов гражданства на таких основаниях. Да что там - вообще на любых основаниях. Вони было бы... А тут международная общественность даже не пикнет. Арабам можно.

Интересная статья, описывающая тяжелую жизнь жителей Газы при оккупации:

secret trial. The jails were always full and torture was common. There
was official censorship of the press and mail, and telephone lines were

И так далее. Речь идет, натурально, о Египетской оккупации Газы. Впрочем, думается мне, при "декократическом" правлении Хамаса дела идут не лучше.

Журнал Экономист продолжает учить нас - ну и Любимого Руководителя, конечно - как помирить евреев с арабами. Вот, например, что он говорит о Хамасе:
The right mixture of pressure and inducements, including an end to
Gaza’s economic blockade, might well tempt Hamas back into a unity
government, not least because it stands a fair chance of controlling
such a government when next there are elections in both Gaza and the
West Bank.
Would it be a disaster if Hamas won? Only if it stood by its
rejectionist creed. Yet Fatah too once called for the destruction of
Israel, and changed its mind. Hamas even now sends out enough hints of
pragmatism to make it worth seeing whether it can be induced to
undertake a similar ideological journey. But—and here is the other
immediate job for the peacemakers—Hamas will not be induced to
compromise unless the prospect of a Palestinian state begins to look
real.
Иными словами, inducement налицо - но где же pressure? Никакой pressure пока не видно, одни надежды (Hope and Change!), что если Хамасу пообещать достаточно много, то они подобреют. Причем даже автор статьи не решается заявить, что Хамас изменился - даже его целевая аудитория не готова пока поверить в такое - но он уже видит намеки! Как Ходжа Насреддин, толкующий шевеление ушами и махание головой осла в якобы слова прекрасного принца, в этого осла обращенного.
Но читаем дальше:
To that end, Mr Obama needs to make it clear, preferably before Israel’s election next month, that America will no longer countenance Israel’s colonisation of the West Bank. The Jewish settlements there should never have been built, and Israel has promised to freeze them. This has become a test. If Mr Obama cannot hold Israel to its promise, his chances of restoring America’s standing as the indispensable mediator in this conflict are nil.
Вот вам и pressure. Т.е. Экономист советует - Израиль давить, Хамас поощрять. Тогда, разумеется, Хамас поймет, что раньше они поступали неправильно - именно на эту мысль должна их навести предполагаемая победа на выборах, предлагаемые поблажки и предлагаемое давление на Израиль - и тут же перекуется.
Мне только одно непонятно - у меня в комментах тут кто-то высказывал мысль, что Экономист, дескать, "делает вид, что соблюдает нейтральность". Признайтесь, товарищ, вы хотели меня разыграть?

Насчет предотвращения контрабанды оружия в Газу:
What about the issue of arms smuggling into Gaza?
That's much more more problematic.
To be polite, the Egyptians are telling us stories and we are deluding ourselves.
Egypt was not effective in the past. It doesn't care about weapons in Gaza.
The smuggling tunnel apparatus also features drugs and televisions and mobile phones, and keeps whole tribes in business. So either Egypt has to truly confront this whole industry or pay off the smugglers. And I'm not sure it's going to do that.
As for the dramatic signing of an agreement between Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and the previous secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, intended to stop the smuggling, well, without being rude, it's not serious and it's not significant.
Что не радует.
